The Story Behind CHOW Pet Foods

Some businesses begin with a business plan.
CHOW began with heartbreak, stubborn hope, and two very naughty puppies.

We lost our childhood dog, and no matter how hard we tried, replacing him, and his mate, never truly worked. There were many attempts, and a lot more heartbreak. Then one day, our neighbour turned up with two puppies born behind the factory, Spot and Brownie. I was still in high school at the time, and little did I know those two would change my life.

They were, without question, little devils. Completely untrainable. Full of personality. And sadly, full of health problems. From a young age they struggled with serious skin issues. Years later, after graduating from both British International School and then overseas at university, I came home to find them red, sore, patchy-haired, and deeply uncomfortable. They weren’t happy dogs.

So I did what any stubborn dog mum would do, I started researching.

I threw myself into learning about pet nutrition, vitamins, minerals, and what truly supports healthy skin and fur. I studied ingredients. I read labels. And eventually, I stopped buying food altogether and started cooking for them myself.

The change was undeniable.
With real food, they began to heal. Their coats improved. Their energy came back. Their comfort returned. That was my first real lesson in what proper nutrition can do.

Not long after, I met a friend who owned a fishery. Through many long conversations about our dogs and what we were feeding them, we started talking seriously about using fish as a clean, protein-rich base for dog food. Then one day someone joked,
“Should we become the milkmen of dog food?”

You remember the old-school milkman, right? Fresh, delivered, trusted.
And just like that, the idea was born.

What started as cooking for our own dogs slowly turned into cooking for friends’ dogs too. But things truly became serious when we met Russell from Canine Point Academy. He had been buying kibble from a local vet, and after hearing what we were doing, he asked if we could cook for all the dogs at the academy.

We said yes.

And from that point on, CHOW took off.

Just six months after starting the business, we held our very first charity event, because giving back was never meant to be optional. It was built into CHOW from the very beginning.

Why Natural Food?

For me, the answer is simple.

Spot and Brownie went through everything, medications, topical treatments, even the infamous purple antiseptic that gets put on everything. Nothing truly solved the problem long-term. Only real, fresh food made a lasting difference.

On a personal level, I have always believed in natural medicine where possible. Thai people grow up eating fresh greens that are medicinal in themselves. When I am unwell, I use natural supplements first. So why would I choose anything different for my dogs, my babies?

CHEMICALS weren’t the answer. Nature was.

An Island Child’s Company, For Island Dogs

I designed CHOW to be an island child’s company, made for island dogs.
Small-batch. Fresh. Honest. Wholesome. Built with care, not mass production in mind.

Today, CHOW has grown far beyond what I ever imagined in those early kitchen-batch days. And one day, I would love to see CHOW available on other islands around the world, starting with Singapore and Hong Kong.

Five years from now? Who knows.

My greatest hope is that one day, CHOW will be able to support multiple shelters in every country it operates in. Good food for dogs with homes, and just as importantly, for those without.

Because CHOW was never designed to be the biggest.
It was designed to be the most wholesome.

And it will always remain that way.
