Why I Love Using Green Tripe in Our Chow Pet Foods Recipes

When people ask me about the ingredients we use at Chow Pet Foods, there is one that always gets a reaction: green tripe.

Usually it goes something like this…
“Wait… tripe? Isn’t that the smelly stuff?”

And yes, they’re absolutely right. Green tripe does have a very strong smell. But here’s the funny thing, while humans tend to wrinkle their noses at it, dogs absolutely love it. And more importantly, it’s incredibly good for them.

What Exactly Is Green Tripe?

Green tripe is the raw stomach lining of grazing animals like cows or sheep. It’s called “green” not because of the colour, but because it hasn’t been bleached, processed, or stripped of its nutrients like the white tripe you sometimes see in supermarkets.

When it’s left in its natural state, green tripe is packed with goodness that dogs naturally benefit from.

And when I first started researching natural nutrition for dogs, green tripe kept coming up again and again as one of the most beneficial ingredients you can feed them.

A True Doggy Superfood

Green tripe is full of things that help keep dogs healthy and happy.

It’s rich in natural proteins, which support muscle development and energy levels. It also contains natural probiotics and digestive enzymes, which are fantastic for helping dogs digest their food properly and maintain a healthy gut.

A healthy gut plays a huge role in a dog’s overall wellbeing. It affects everything from their digestion and energy levels to their immune system.

Green tripe is also naturally packed with vitamins and minerals, including calcium and phosphorus in a balance that dogs’ bodies can easily use.

It’s basically a nutritional powerhouse for dogs.

Why I Use It in Chow Pet Foods

When I started Chow Pet Foods, my goal was simple: feed dogs the way nature intended.

That means using real, natural ingredients that actually support a dog’s health, rather than filling their bowls with overly processed foods.

Green tripe fits perfectly into that philosophy. It might not be glamorous, but it delivers incredible nutritional value.

And I can tell you from experience, when dogs smell it, their tails start wagging immediately.

Yes… It Smells!

I won’t pretend otherwise, green tripe is definitely one of the smellier ingredients we use. But I always remind people that dogs experience food very differently to us. What smells unusual to us smells absolutely delicious to them.

And when you see how excited dogs get about it, you quickly realise why it’s worth it.

The Chow Way

At Chow Pet Foods, every recipe is made with natural, wholesome ingredients, prepared with care to give dogs the nutrition they deserve.

Green tripe is just one of the ingredients that helps us do that.

Because at the end of the day, dogs are family. And family deserves food that keeps them healthy, happy, and wagging their tails.

And if that means using a slightly smelly superfood along the way… well, I think that’s a small price to pay. 🐾
